Spring 2013 in a Castle

Well, it has been an extremely busy few months...hence my disappearance, but here I am.  I am going to post about this year's prom soon, but I wanted to quickly look ahead to next year's event.  I am thinking castles.  What do you think?  Check out my inspiration photo:

Hoo's your baby?

It has been a month since my last posted.  I can't believe it.  Time passes so quickly.  I have been swamped at work and at home.  So, today I want to share one of the many projects I have completed during this past month.  A friend of mine is having her first child, a boy.  She requested owl cupcake topppers and a banner.  Happily, my scrapping buddies gave me the Give a Hoot cricut cartridge for my birthday in October.  Perfect, right?  I tried to match the owl colors to the paper plates, napkins, etc that they were using for the shower. Enjoy!

Wizard of Oz: Birthday Card

Well...my friend Suzanne's birthday is soon, and I wanted to create a cute card for her to coordinate with the gift I got her. She is a big Wizard of Oz fan.  I bought her a Graphic 45 Magic of Oz scrapbook kit from Archivers online.  So, I decided to use an image from the paper in the kit to make her a card and envelope.  The envelope is simple, and the card is more elaborate.

I used pop dots to raise some images, and I added some irock gemstones.

Hope she likes it!

Stash It: Hayley's Birthday Book

This is the first installment of something I like to call Stash It!  If you are like me, you have a lot of scrapbooking supplies.  I have been scrappin' a while, and I hoard supplies.  I love paper, ribbon, buttons, brads, fabric, and the list goes on and on... So, I am making an effort to use some of the supplies that I have had for a while.

Each year I make a mini scrapbook for a young lady at church.  This time, I searched through my supplies for a kit to use.  I have two or three discontinued Colorbok kits for minis like the one here entitled Baby Boy:

For the birthday book, I used one entitled birthday (of course).  I altered, inked, and embellished it with items I already owned.

I pleated a pink streamer and formed a circle for the cover (cheap and cute)!  On top of the circle, I affixed the number 11 for her age.  Add some letter stickers, pearls, a flower, and voila!

I would also like to highlight a few of the pages.  I used various border punches on the ends of the pages and inked them.

I cut a doily and added it and some flowers for extra texture.

I included gems and string to create a set of balloons.

The balloons mimicked the background paper.

I folded the end of one page and secured it with brads to create a pocket to hold a monogram card embellished with ribbon and her name.

On the final page, I included more pleated pink streamer and another piece of the doily with rhinestones for cohesion.

My challenge to you: Dig through your stash and make something!

Satin Flower Hairbows

Since making the red satin flowers for my scrap kits for my friends, I have wanted to make some as hair bows for my daughter and my niece.  I made a turqouise one and am very happy with the results.  Next time, I am going to put felt on the back that is the same color as the flower, just so it looks more finished.  My daughter loved it though and that is what counts!

Crop Kits

A few weeks ago, my girlfriends and I went to Nashville for the Creating Keepsakes Convention at the Opryland Hotel.  We have been several times.  A couple of times we went to the one in Charlotte instead of Nashville.  I highly recommend it!  I learn many new techniques in the classes each time, and we have a blast at the vendor fair.  However, we do not participate in the evening crops.  I am sure they are great fun, but I have to save money somewhere, and we love to go out and eat!  This year, we decided to have our own crop in our hotel room.  After grabbing some Thai food, we headed back to the hotel to create some fun layouts.  Each of us put together a kit for each person to make a two page layout.  So, I came home with several additional layouts ready for photos and a title!  Check them out!

The layout below is by my friend Amanda.  We stamped and stickled and used the cutest glittery leaves.  It is perfect for those great Fall photos:

The next layout is by my friend Suzanne.  She actually scraplifted it from a layout in a magazine.  I will have to get the details for you so you can look up the original.  It uses folded flowers and Technique Tuesday flower petal stamps.

Last, but not least, is my own layout.

I made a red satin flower for each person.  I found several tutorials on youtube.  It is amazing what you can find on there!  Just do a search for fabric flowers!

I also included kraft colored file folders on the page made with a Sizzix die.  I thought each person could embellish them their way with a photo or paper or perhaps with journaling.  They open up which gives extra space!

Now, I just need to get some photos and journaling on these layouts......

Finally! Making Waves Party!

Well, as I mentioned a couple of posts back, my friend Susan decided to host our second scrapbooking swap entitled Making Waves.  Obviously, it was a beach themed swap party.  We also picked up two new members for the party!  The summer has been soooo busy that we just got around to having our party last weekend.  Sometimes, it is difficult to find a day when all seven of us can get together, but we finally did.  I completed my bucket for the swap pretty quickly, and I made sure to include a couple of handmade items.

The first handmade item was a set of three mini tags.  I stamped and inked them.  You can buy a pack of 100 at Office Depot.  They are resonably priced and last a while!

The second item I made was a set of tickets.  I ordered several colors from a seller on etsy.  They were blank.  I simply used a tiny seahorse stamp, some rub on letters, stickles to make waves and a yellow bead.  I sprayed the whole strip with gold Shimmer spray.  CUTE!

By the way, I am cheap!  All of my bucket items were $1.00 or less.  Combined with my handmade items, I was very satisfied with the results:

Susan, our hostess, gifted us with some cute brightly colored flip flops and these cute scrapbook page kits.  I can't wait to "dive in" to them and create a great page!

Last but not least, the foodand the dining table!  We enjoyed a scrumptious and beautiful meal before our trade and our scrapping!

Hope you make a splash with your projects as well!
